Let me tell you a story…
During the press conference to announce NOKIA being acquired by Microsoft, Nokia CEO ended his speech saying this “we didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost.” Upon saying that, all his management team, and himself included, teared sadly.
You know Nokia has been a reputable company in Nigeria; so much that some people still find it difficult to believe Nokia was gone for good. They didn’t do anything wrong in their business; however, the world changed too fast.
They missed out on learning, they missed out on changing, and thus they lost the opportunity at hand to make it big. Not only did they miss the opportunity to earn big money, but they also lost their chance of survival.
The message of this story is, if you don’t change, you sooner or later will be removed from the competition.
Even if you achieved all you planned last year, you can still do better this year. You see, you can’t be expecting a different result with the same approach. So, if you want something better than what you achieved last year; it’s important to CHANGE your strategies. Stop doing the things you did last year that got you where you are today.
- If you run your businesses offline last year; try running it online this year.
- If you never produce any product last year; try producing this year.
- If you produced one product last year; try and add another product this year.
- If you do not use a funnel in your business last year; try using a funnel this year.
- If you do your businesses without running a paid ad last year; try running some paid ads this year.
Just make sure you do something DIFFERENT to get a DIFFERENT result.
Remember, last your knowledge might not be enough to carry you through this year; so, update your knowledge. The advantage you have yesterday, will be replaced by the trends of tomorrow. You don’t have to do anything wrong, as long as your competitors catch the wave and do it RIGHT, you can lose out and fail.
Those who refuse to learn & improve, will definitely one day become redundant & not relevant to the industry. They will learn the lesson in a hard & expensive way!
