Powder vs. Liquid Detergents

This is one subject that generates lots of opinion in the industry; as everybody wants to know why powder detergent is better than liquid detergent, vice versa.

However, there are three kinds of soaps; liquid, solid and powder. All with their advantages and shortcomings. For instance, the solid soap is usually best for its rigidness, while the liquid is known for its easiness. The powder detergent is best for its uniqueness, and cleaning ability. As a matter of fact, the powder detergent was believed to be the strongest among the three types of soaps. You see, Laundry detergent manufacturers have come a long way since the first box of powder detergent was produced, many years ago.

In today’s post, we will limit our discussion to these two main types of laundry detergents: powder and liquid detergents. For the most part, powder and liquid detergents shared the same active ingredients except for the filler used. Additionally, powder and liquid detergents both have pros and cons, and since they have similar cleaning power; however, people usually choose which type to use based on personal preference.

Advantages of using powdered detergents:

  1. Powder detergents are generally cheaper, which made it very economical.
  2. Its ingredients are more stable than liquid detergents, because it’s in powdered form, which gives it longer shelf life than liquid detergents.
  3. It is easy to package, as it is packed in carton or nylon, which made it more eco-friendly (You will learn more about this in our May 100% PRACTICAL HOUSEHOLD PRODUCT – DON’T MISS IT!!!)

Disadvantages of using powdered detergents:

  1. Some people think powder detergent doesn’t dissolve well in water. This may have been a problem with some of the first powdered detergents, but these days, most powders are designed to readily dissolve in water.
  2. Powder detergent contains more chemicals compared to the liquid detergent.

However, there are so many reasons why some people may or may not use liquid detergents:

Advantages of using liquid detergents:

  1. Liquid detergent is already pre-dissolved.
  2. Liquid detergent can pre-treat stains by pouring it directly onto clothes.

Disadvantages of using liquid detergents:

  1. Liquid detergents usually more expensive than powdered detergent.
  2. Liquid detergents have plastic packaging, which is less eco-friendly.

DOES USING DETERGENTS WEAR OUT YOUR CLOTHES?

Although detergents are made with harsh chemicals, it is debatable whether these chemicals expedite the breakdown of fabrics. As discussed previously, the detergent’s job is to help pull away the dirt and grime from the clothing and rinse it out with water. The actual “wearing” out of clothes is more likely due to the rubbing of clothes in the washing machine (i.e. the agitation), not from the detergents themselves.
