How To Make Incredible Natural Hair Conditioners

Conditioners lubricate the hair shaft, making it soft and pliable, and thus preventing breakage and tangles.  They also stop the nasty fly-away hair caused by static electricity.  Your hair is made up of protein; fortunately, many of the things you’ll find in your kitchen will give your hair the protein it needs to stay beautiful and manageable.

Many of the following conditioners are left in for a while and then rinsed out of the hair.  Always rinse with lukewarm water, unless specified otherwise.

1. Avocado Conditioner

Avocados are full of protein and have other vitamins that are great for hair.  This recipe for avocado conditioner is simple and straightforward.

Mash up half of an avocado in a bowl, then add a half teaspoon of olive oil and three to four drops of a favorite essential oil .  I prefer lavender or rosemary.  Mix it all together and apply the mixture to your hair, concentrating especially on the hair tips.  Put on a shower cap to keep the moisture in and leave your avocado treatment on for at least 10 minutes.  Then you can rinse and style it to your heart’s content.

2. Brown Sugar Avocado Conditioner

Brown sugar and avocado oil make this a powerful conditioner.  It strengthens your hair and adds to its shine.  To create this concoction, mix in a bowl two parts of brown sugar to one part avocado oil .  For shorter hair you will only need two tablespoons of brown sugar to one tablespoon of avocado oil.  Apply this near the scalp and use a comb to distribute it throughout your hair.  This can be messy, so don’t wear anything you don’t mind getting dirty.  Rinse this out with warm water and shampoo.

3. Castor Oil And Egg Conditioner

Castor oil was once used for pretty much any ailment. I think it simply scared germs away with its disgusting odor!

To make this powerful concoction, use a blender to combine two teaspoons of castor oil with one egg yolk .  Whip it up well, then slather it on your hair, leaving it in for 15 minutes.  A shower cap will contain the odor.  Shampoo and rinse your hair and the powerful smell will be gone.

4. Coconut Herb Deep Conditioning Treatment

Coconut oil is very healthy for hair.  It moisturizes the shaft and keeps the moisture in.  Consequently, it makes for a very good conditioner.

To mix this up, melt two tablespoons of coconut oil , if it isn’t already in a liquid state; coconut oil melts at 76 degrees Fahrenheit.  Brew a cup of herbal tea and add a quarter cup of it to the coconut oil.  Also add a few drops of essential oil .  Chamomile tea works very well and leaves a light apple scent.  I often combine it with lavender or rose oil.

To apply, dampen your hair slightly. You’ll apply one teaspoon of the conditioner to long hair and a up to a half teaspoon for short hair.  See that all your hair gets coated with the conditioner, then cover it with a shower cap.  Sit in the sun or near a source of heat for 45 minutes to an hour.  Then, shampoo your hair and rinse it well.

5. Cream Conditioner

Cream is rich in minerals and vitamins that help to make your hair lush, and full, and strong.  Blend together one tablespoon of cream , a half cup of 2% milk , and one tablespoon of honey .  Leave this mixture in your hair for 15 minutes before washing it out.  This tonic is good for preventing split ends.

6. Egg Conditioner

Eggs are pure protein and make hair strands strong and resistant to breakage.  Use an electric mixer to whip this conditioner up.  Beat one egg yolk in a bowl until it becomes thick.  Gradually add a half teaspoon of olive oil, followed by three quarters of a cup of warm water .  Step in the shower and massage the watery mixture into your hair.  Leave it in for just a few minutes before rinsing your hair with warm water.  If you rinse with cold water, the conditioner could congeal and make a big mess in your hair.

7. Honey Conditioner

Honey is hard to get out of your hair, but it is very healthy.  It moisturizes and helps hair to hold in the moisture.  You will need to rinse it out with warmer water than is usually used on hair. With this treatment, your hair will not be clean until it squeaks when you run it between your thumb and fingers.

You can make this honey conditioner by whisking one tablespoon of honey with a half cup of plain yogurt .  Apply to hair and scalp, leave it on for a few minutes, and then rinse thoroughly with very warm water.

8. Mashed Banana Conditioner

Bananas are full of potassium and, like avocados, they help to mend damaged hair.  This conditioner is rather difficult to rinse out, but the benefits are well worth the trouble.

To create this conditioner, mash a banana in a bowl and add two drops of almond oil (or olive oil).  Apply to the hair and hold in place with a shower cap for about 20 minutes.  Rinse well, but do not shampoo.

9. Mayonnaise Conditioner

Mayonnaise contains eggs, vinegar, and oil, which can restore a damaged cuticle and prevent future damage.  It is full of protein and adds strength to hair strands.

To use mayonnaise as a hair conditioner, just apply a handful of the stuff to your dry hair.  Put on a shower cap and let it set for 20 minutes.  Rinse first, then shampoo.

10. Papaya Conditioner

Papayas are rich in vitamins and minerals that are good for your hair. Blended with yogurt, they make a lovely conditioner for your hair that smells good enough to eat (and it is).

To make and use this delicious mix, blend together one ripe papaya with the skin removed and a half cup of plain yogurt .  Work the stuff into your hair, cover it with a shower cap, and let it set for 30 minutes.  After it has simmered well, wash everything out, rinsing thoroughly.

11. Shea Butter Conditioner

Shea butter is extremely gentle as it moisturizes and softens your hair.  It comes from the nuts of an African tree. You will also need coconut oil and honey to make this conditioner.

Warning :  honey is very hard to get out of coarse hair.  You may have to use water that is warmer than you would like in order to melt the stuff out. Your hair should feel squeaky clean after washing.

Melt two tablespoons of shea butter and two tablespoons of coconut oil in a double boiler.  Add one tablespoon of honey , five drops of tea tree oil , three drops of eucalyptus oil , and three drops of peppermint oil .  Mix well, and then pour into a small bowl.  Set in the freezer for about 10 minutes, until it firms up well.

Stir the mixture again, then put a handful of the thick substance on your head and run it down your hair from scalp to tips.  Leave it on for about 20 minutes, then rinse and shampoo.

12. Strawberry Conditioner

Strawberries contain vast amounts of Vitamin C. This conditioner is great for oily hair.  You can make this strawberry conditioner by putting four to five large strawberries in a blender, along with two tablespoons of mayonnaise .  Blend well to make a paste and apply to hair.  Leave in a few minutes before rinsing it out.

13. Yogurt And Banana Conditioner

The combination of these two ingredients makes for a great conditioner.  You get healthy hair and a healthy scalp, to boot.

In a bowl, make a paste using one banana and two tablespoons of plain yogurt .  Spread the mixture all over your head and put on a shower cap, leaving it on for one hour.  Rinse out well.

14. Yogurt Conditioner

Yogurt is full of probiotics; just as they help your body, they can help your hair.  Only use plain yogurt, not anything that is sweetened or with fruit added.

To create this conditioner, combine a half cup of plain yogurt in a bowl with a half cup of mayonnaise and one egg white .  Whip it with a whisk to a light froth. This combination is wet, so you may need to wear a towel around your shoulders to catch the drips as you apply it.  You will apply the mixture to your hair ends only.  Do not apply to the scalp.  Don a shower cap and let the mixture work for 30 minutes.  Then shampoo and rinse well.

Conditioners are one way to keep your hair in shape, but there is another, “older” way that consists of using rinse recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation. Just leave a comment below if you need that post.
